The young Ulf Ansorge is an exceptional talent in Hagenheim soccer. He is considered the most talented player in his team and is also the team's top scorer. He is now set to move to another city to study and is therefore toying with the idea of changing clubs. The sports board, of which Ulf's future father-in-law is also a member, tries to persuade him to stay. In his inner conflict, Ulf finally scores an own goal on purpose to make the decision for himself.

Willi Zubrodt is delegated by his department to a parachuting course at the GST. As he is not very disciplined, has no respect for the instructors and does not fit into the collective, the instructors try to show him up and force his expulsion from the course. The main character Otto, the "best man", is a copy of the illustrious Mister Bean. He takes on an apprenticeship as a building-worker, which makes him a member of a building brigade. At the same time Otto tries to start a love affair, which he handles even clumsier. Never the less Otto makes progress with the lady in question, a single mother, who apparently doesn't mind. Actually he wanted her sister, but a retired Leninist party member changes his mind. This gives him the courage to persevere in his work, albeit with the helping hand of the obligatory retired party member. And behold, in the end Otto invents a new method of building, which saves the brigade many hours of work.

To be looked after so lovingly - what man wouldn't want that? Bernd Vogel pins all his hopes on Renate, the attractive dancer, although he can't really complain about the care of his faithful girlfriend Berta. The friendly man with the big heart gets into a few arguments, not least because he pursues his adolescent daughter with fatherly jealousy. Nevertheless, he eventually finds the happiness he deserves.

GDR tourism expert Obermüller wants to instruct his deputy Hurtig in the management of the newly opened Schneemannbaude (ski lodge). However, he makes an embarrassing mistake beforehand. As a result, the entire staff, from the cook to the chambermaid, take a few days off over the turn of the year, while the first guests are already arriving. They have to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand, whether making the beds, working at reception or in the boiler room. Despite the improvisational skills of the Obermüller/Hurtig team, there are a few minor compromises when it comes to service...

The journeyman tailor Kasper has a hard time. His mistress is constantly keeping him busy with chores. When the brownies show up in town and take over all the craftsmen's work, Kasper can no longer get any sewing done. That's fine with the master. He now often meets up with his colleagues to sing a quartet, but Kasper finally becomes the master's pet. When this nosy and bossy person ambushes the brownies with peas, the good Kasper tries to protect the little gnomes from harm. He is unsuccessful, and the brownies leave the town for good, badly demolished. Now they have to do the work themselves again. The masters are very sad, but the choir singing helps them get over the worst. Kasper is happy, he can pick up the needle again and become a capable journeyman tailor.
