In 1912, in Austria, the painter Egon Schiele is sent to jail accused of pornography with the nymphet Tatjana in his erotic paints. His mate, the model Vally, gets help from a famous lawyer to release him. Then he leaves Vally, marries with another woman and goes to the war.

At a French military outpost, a group of lackadaisical servicemen find plenty of time to make trouble, enjoy nature and pursue beautiful women.

Three upright apprentices - tailor Zwirn, carpenter Leim, and shoemaker Knieriem - win a lottery and get rich overnight. Leim marries his master’s daughter, Zwirn squanders his fortune on the glamorous Signora Palpiti, and Knieriem drinks away his wealth. During an archeological expedition in the Amazon, a group of explorers -- including a father and a son -- finds a beautiful golden statue. The party is attacked by remnants of a lost civilization, and the son is rescued by Indians. Years later, living in the city, he discovers in a magazine article photographic evidence of the golden god in the jungle. Willing to find his father, he quits his job and travels to the Amazon.

He came to the conclusion that it was primarily the unhygienic conditions in the clinic itself that led to this disease, as his colleagues were constantly shuttling back and forth between the anatomy department and the delivery room. He tries to convince the doctors of the absolute necessity of thorough disinfection by washing their hands with chlorinated lime. He meets with fierce resistance from his colleagues until he himself sets up an exemplary clinic in Budapest.

Hamburg student Richard Kirbach indulges in an unusual hobby: he plays chess via shortwave with Arnold Pieper, an old German coconut planter in the South Seas. The men, who are so different, become so close that one day Pieper asks the young man for a big favor. Arnold has a capricious and rather volatile daughter named Lale, who, in his opinion, gets up to a lot of mischief in Europe. To put an end to this, Pieper quickly asks Richard to marry Lale, who is unknown to him. In order to make the marriage attractive to him, the fat old man also offers “prize money” of $5,000, which the poor student could really use.
