Frida, aged 13, has discovered a book by psychoanalyst Erich Fromm called "The art of loving". Using it as a reference she sets out to better the love lives of her family and friends. But love works in mysterious ways...

An 11-year-old boy is tormented by his unpleasant uncle Oskar. Oskar is a sheep farmer with far too much self-confidence, and he is quite unpleasant and bossy. But the boy always finds a way to get revenge.

Lotte and her father moves in with Kristin, a former beauty queen, and her daughter, Vendela. Kristin is grooming Vendela to win the Little Miss Norway contest, and as a result both girls get more and more preoccupied with their looks. When Lotte is allowed to participate in the contest, it soon becomes clear that being too vain can be a frightening experience.
