In 1950, amidst the ravages of the Korean War, Sergeant Süleyman stumbles upon a a half-frozen little girl, with no parents and no help in sight and he risks his own life to save her, smuggling her into his army base and out of harm’s way.

Three brothers living in Balat, one of Istanbul's old neighborhoods, each struggling to make ends meet in their own way: Gürkan, who earns a living as a taxi driver; Orhan, who runs a rice shop; and Duran, who is hopelessly in love. While continuing their daily struggles like everyone else and trying to resolve their ordinary problems, the lives of these three brothers are turned upside down by a triangle of murder, mafia, and kidnapping triggered by an accident that befalls them one day.

Orhan, who works as a funeral director at the municipality, is also responsible for the cemetery for the destitute. He wants to marry his girlfriend Serpil, but cannot afford to do so. Orhan's friend Rafet wants to dispose of a corpse and asks Orhan to bury it in the cemetery for the destitute in exchange for money. Orhan's conscience troubles him, but he thinks that with the money he will receive, he can marry Serpil, and reluctantly accepts the offer.
