Even with all the brutality in the Brazilian dictatorial period, many artists presented themselves as a resistance, using their talent and creativity as a way to trick the censorship.

The Trapalhões live in a floating boat and have a miserable life. When they find an abandoned baby, they decide to raise it as if it were their own daughter. Later, when they begin to work in a circus, they discover that the child is in fact the daughter of the trapeze artist and that she was forced to surrender her daughter to a gang that negotiates children abroad. This gang finds them and tries to recover the girl who now, however, has the help of the Trapalhões to protect her.

Ted Boy and Renato, two clumsy mechanics from the countryside, are dating two young women who live in a luxurious mansion near their workshop. Ted Boy gets into a fight with some catch fighters, and their coach, thrilled with his performance, invites him to train. Two jumbled and coward drivers join a rich family that moves to an ancient castle inhabited by a resented, but friendly ghost.

Since the ban on use of animals in circus shows, the Great Sumatra Circus faces a major financial crisis. Baron, who owns the circus, accepts unseemly proposals from the mayor to hold cattle auctions, rallies and other alternative events at the circus.
