Placide's dad tells him on his deathbed he'll haunt Placide if he doesn't find a wife soon. Placide cautiously agrees, but he only wants to settle for a very beautiful woman. Lui eats a dangerous berry, despite Plop's warning, and grows as tall as a human. The gnomes get angry, so Lui runs away crying and gets lost in the forest. Before he knows it, he ends up in the city, causing chaos wherever he comes..

Because of a misunderstanding, Plop turns into the new king! Klus, Kwebbel and Lui move to the palace, while Plop is trained to become royalty, but what happened to the real heir of the throne?

Lui finds a basket with a clown baby inside and starts to take care of the baby as if it's his own. But due to a misunderstanding, he thinks that Plop has something against babies and decides to keep him hidden..

Gaston grew up on the fringes of society and interacts with other people as little as possible. Leo, on the other hand, is a very bourgeois person. He lives way above his station, but has a heart of gold. Using forged cheques and unsecured credit cards, he tries to keep up appearances. By a coincidence, Gaston's fate is linked to Leo's.

Only Smul has a wicked plan, he wants to steal eggs in revenge because the gnome Easter Bunny once forgot about him. But of course that turns out to be a misunderstanding...

On a cold winter day, Plop and his friends get a visit from Pinki, a penguin that escaped an evil woman that wants to create Pinguin Soup. The gnomes travel to the South Pole to rescue all the penguins, before it's too late..

Hugo Claus rewrote and directed Friday as the cinematic version of his original 1969 play of the same name. Just as in the play, the story begins with the theme of incest, as the father Georges (Frank Aendenboom) returns from serving his jail sentence for that crime. Unlike the earlier play, however, the film does not emphasize that aspect of the story. When Georges gets home he finds out that his wife Jeanne (Kitty Courbois) has had an illegitimate child by a younger man, Erik (Herbert Flack), and now both of them must somehow try to return to a normal life, given their only too obvious lapses in moral judgment. As the husband and wife try hard to accommodate each other's failings and start to get to know each other again, Erik comes back into the picture. Now the three of them must resolve the deep-seated conflicts that brought them to this emotionally-wrought juncture of love and betrayal.
