“A State for one man is no State at all” are the words from Sophocles’ Antigone. Sara has lost her brother to Covid–19. She wants nothing more than to say goodbye to her brother with a traditional burial that respects the Cape Verdean culture and grave site. In a world silenced and halted by the pandemic, the young woman connects with her community and memories.

What starts as an animal lab experiment leads, in the future, to the development of artificial beings capable of carrying out the most varied and complex of tasks. Before being delivered to their customers, the manufacturer develops a kind of final quality control test, supervised by a technician, where certain skills (like learning the customer’s language) are improved. This part of the process invariably occurs in a closed environment, usually a house with key characteristics of the customers home. Alpha is one of such artificial beings. He and Beta are a couple only a few weeks away from being shipped to their future owners in Japan.

Three times she travelled until the last stop on the F line. Each as if it was the first. There she found a meatless Disneyland, only skin, bone and memories. She thought of Dorothy and her dog.
