The life of Fernando Farinha, from kid where he ran away to school - to sing the fado, and the condescension of the parents, although aspiring to have an "honest" job.

During a tour of the province, someone mistakenly leaves a baby in a singer's car without him noticing. António decides to take the child in, with Madalena, a fellow artist. But the presumed mother, claiming it was a mistake, enlists the help of her brother, a police officer, which leads to a chase to Porto.

João and Jaime work as taxi drivers for the same company. But, once the company's vault is robbed by Raul, the manager's son, João is the one to blame.

Rui, a young musician, is writing poems for the vaudeville company.
