A group of pensioners, exasperated by the Social Security strike, meet Chalupot, a former paratrooper and ex-priest who has just been released from prison. He encouraged them to form the M.L.V. (Mouvement de Libération des Vieillards) and organize demonstrations. But as Chalupot is arrested and locked up, the pensioners plan to hold up the Social Security.

Roberto goes to Marseilles to give a hand to his friend Xavier, wrongly imprisoned following a frame-up organized by his associate Villanova. Roberto sets out to seduce Villanova's mistress, but when Villanova is killed, Roberto ends up leader of the band...

Auguste is about an eponymous bank clerk who finds fame and fortune. Auguste happens to be in the right place at the right time to save young starlet Francine from killing herself -- or more accurately, pretending to kill herself. His supposed heroism hits the news, and before Auguste knows what is happening, a Machiavellian publicist is using him for his own ends. The bank clerk is no fool and soon thinks of a way to come out on top.

In November 1942, American troops landed in Tunisia. German paratroopers were immediately launched and occupied Tunis. But the captain is mute and the cavalrymen don't know whether the operation is being prepared against the Germans or the Allies. In the village, Maurice meets up with his friend Léa, a refugee, and discovers with fury that she is Jewish, because he doesn't like Jews any more than he likes English or Germans! The hunters set up camp on the bridge. Soon, a German column appears and demands passage. The captain refuses, awaiting orders from Vichy. But in Tunis, confusion reigns. Finally, the captain himself takes the initiative to oppose the passage of the German troops...

One morning in August 1944, the inhabitants of a French village are celebrating their premature liberation. The festivities are interrupted by the arrival of an exhausted, leaderless German detachment. A few kilometers away, the inhabitants of the village of Muzière negotiate with the Germans and agree to a truce. But the arrival of a Wehrmacht captain, anxious to regain control of the men, puts an end to this fragile peace process. The captain suggested meeting the Americans and surrendering to regular troops rather than civilians. The inhabitants of Muzière, believing the truce to be broken, fire on the Germans and, on this misunderstanding, the guns start talking again.
