Born 1952-05-24 · Vitry-sur-Seine, Val-de-Marne, France

Jean-Marc Cerrone, well known as Marc Cerrone, was born in 1952 in Paris, France. Together with Giorgio Moroder, he set out to become Europe's most important contribution of the Disco-Sound. At age 18, he was Orchestra-Leader at the Club Mediterranee; at 20, he had a very lucrative contract with the french producer Barclay. With the goal that his records meet the current trends, he sold more than 10 million records (until 1979). He had his biggest success in the international Single-Charts in July 1978 in Great Britain with "Super Nature." His first album came with the disco classic "Love in C Minor"- one of the first disco songs to fill a side of a record with an extended version of just one song. "Golden Touch" was his final studio-recorded album of the 70s and another classic dance track was founded with "Je Suis Music." Further albums followed in the 80s, including "Cerrone IX" with "Club Underworld."

"120 beats per minute—at this tempo, twice as fast as the human heartbeat, disco music gets the blood pumping and revs up the libido. In the 1970s, when eroticism took over the silver screen and sex ceased to be a purely private matter, disco became the soundtrack of the sexual revolution. A film about the surprising connections between disco and pornography—and how erotic content increasingly found its way into pop culture.

Mr. Supernature AKA Marc Cerrone or simply Cerrone has been a pillar of glittery four-to-the-floor disco anthems for nearly 40 years now. If you’re not familiar with the drummer, producer, composer, francofunkateer amongst countless other titles and roles, he’s kind of a god, on par with Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers and the like. Pitchfork has gathered raw concert footage and interview with Rodgers, Bob Sinclar, Dave Haslam and the man himself (who chalks-up his fascination with electric music numbers to seeing Jimi Hendrix perform live in Paris as a teenager) to delve into the mans incalculable contribution to the DNAs of dance floor freakers and pop music alike (sampling years before it was adopted as hip-hop’s hammer and nail) and how he came to be so cherished by the greater funk cannon.
