Hermannus Jantinus van Veen (born 14 March 1945) is a Dutch stage performer, actor, author, singer-songwriter, musician and painter. He worked with accompanists Laurens van Rooyen and Erik van der Wurff, both of whom were pianists and composers. In addition to performing internationally, Van Veen is famous as the creator of Alfred J. Kwak (1976). The original one-man theatre show was adapted as a Dutch-German-Japanese cartoon (1989), which was broadcast internationally. In addition to creating the show's story, Van Veen also wrote, composed and performed most of the show's music. He also performed the voice-overs for the characters Johan Sebastian Kwak, Krabnagel de Kater and Professor Pal…

He causes havoc in the classroom pouring ink over his teacher yet when a polio-crippled boy joins the class Ciske is one of the only children to befriend him and is bullied as a result. His mother works in a bar and Ciske helps out often late into the night - his father is at sea and his mother supplements her income with prostitution. Ciske is also a very angry young man and he smoulders with rage at life's injustices.

NRBecause his father and mother, his brothers and sisters had been killed by a large expensive car, Alfred Jodocus Kwak lived with his stepfather Henk de Mol in a wooden house on the banks of the Snelle Vliet in the reeds of Groot Waterland. And if you sail past in a boat, you might hear Alfred Jodocus Kwak singing. "Splash, splash, nice and cool in the water, go home now, I'll be there in a drop." The musical fable of Alfred Jodocus Kwak (lyrics: Herman van Veen; music: Herman van Veen, Erik van der Wurff, Harry Sacksioni) was first performed by the Amsterdam Youth Theater in Carré on Sunday, August 29, 1976. Eleven years later, Herman van Veen sang and narrated the musical fable in various European cities, accompanied by the Groot Waterlands Symphony Orchestra conducted by Erik van der Wurff. The performance in the Elisabethzaal in Antwerp was recorded by Veronica television, directed by Geert Popma.
