The Stillness Syndrome poster
4.7

In 2018, a group of filmmakers calling themselves "Los Quietos" set out to make a film essay on a hypothetical syndrome of stillness in the Republic of Colombia. To this end, they invite Colombian documentary master Luis Ospina, presidential candidate Gustavo Petro and writer Juan Gabriel Vásquez to give them clues to delve into the history, geography and idiosyncrasy of Colombia, a country that, paradoxically, has very little of stillness. For unknown reasons, the project remained unfinished.

Taking up his dream of making films, traveling to India to "find" his first feature to discover his real quest is not in India but in Madrid. However, on his return home, things do not go exactly as he had hoped ... Recorded over several years with very limited budget, the film asks, as a "film-diary", daily situations of the filmmaker's life, recorded during that time and narrated in the first person.

After three chapters and eleven years, Siminiani sets out the seven rules of efficiency that underpin his series "Key Concepts of the Modern World". Against a black screen, with a few words in white and fleeting images of people and his previous works, it is the voice that shapes the ideas.

In 1948, the Spanish directors Juan Antonio Bardem and Luis García Berlanga made their first film together: "Paseo por una guerra antigua" ("Walk through an Ancient War"), now considered to be almost lost. In 2021, Léon Siminiani takes what's left of that film and builds a puzzle about war, Francoism and the creative process of two artists.
