"Mieso" (Meat) is a satirical and irreverent revision of the most recent history of Poland.

A century of Polish animation unfolds pre-war avant-garde experiments to today’s independent scene. It foregrounds a generation of committed artists who, working amid shifting social and cultural conditions, forged a singular visual language — blending cut-outs, puppets, and experimental techniques with surrealism, philosophy, and dark humour. Drawing on pioneers such as Jan Lenica and Walerian Borowczyk, the film explores how animation became a space for artistic exploration, subtle commentary, and formal innovation. A chronicle of artistic triumphs and an intimate portrait of a medium that constantly redefined the boundaries of imagination.

The story follows a young scientist in the contemporary world, who actually came from the world of dwarves, thanks to a magic potion, held by the Big Eater, ruler of the dwarves. The dwarf kingdom, Shuflandia, exists in a cellar of a library, and only the most obedient get the chance to grow to king size and inhabit the larger world. Once there, nobody wants to return to Shuflandia. Also, there are no women in Shuflandia.

The film was inspired by one of the most important documentaries shot by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Talking Heads (1980). The director asked his interlocutors seemingly simple questions, such as “Who are you?” and “What do you want?”.

About the fact that we must take care of love carefully, because returning to a loved one may prove impossible, even if there is a glowing longing on both sides. A broken diamond can no longer be glued together.

Original animated film made for the International Chopin Year. The soundtrack consists of Fryderyk Chopin's music performed by Justyna Steczkowska, Tomasz Stańko and Michał Urbaniak. The author rejects the pompous, exalted, pathos-laden, obligatory admiration that paralyses the possibility of hearing Chopin's music in a fresh way.
