Maria and Tom are in their thirties and have been married ten years. They live in a small town. Both find professional fulfillment in their jobs he in a design company, she at the town hall. They are working together on the decoration of their apartment and are expecting a baby. It seems that nothing is capable of disturbing their peaceful lives. But one day the mayor, who has long lusted after Maria, rapes her. She decides not to report this to the police. Nor does she tell her husband. From that day forth, their love is put to the test.

The fate of three Catholic priests were linked together through tragic events a few years back. The year is 1981, a month before the imposition of martial law. At the "Metalpol" plant, where almost the entire Szostak family works, fierce and dramatic discussions and games are taking place. Karol Szostak, who is uncompromising but moderate in his actions, is elected chairman of the industry trade union. Solidarity members demand his dismissal. Despite the strike, declared at the behest of the region, Szostak, along with others, joins the work force. He is taken away in a wheelbarrow from the plant where he has worked for 46 years.

To be defeated and not be - a victory. This is the motto that life is guided by three young friends: Alek, Sophy and Rudy. Scouts, high school graduates high school in Warsaw drifting ambitious plans for the future broken through September 1939. Rysiek is an escapee from a reform school. Julek escapes the anger of a fire brigade in a small town from which he embezzled. In search for food Rysiek breaks into a villa and discovers a bundle of cash in the freezer. They team together in Warsaw and decide to go on a rampage through the city.

In the absence of their parents, the Malinowski kids are robbed. Instead of going to the police though they decide to regain the stolen money themselves.

A young boy sends anonymous threats to various troublemakers around town, hoping that they will report themeselves to the police and grant his older brother, a militia officer a transfer to Warsaw.

WWII. Zyga, one of the Resistance soldiers in Kraków is arrested by Gestapo. Soon later the Germans make a number of other arrests and Zyga is accused of being an informer.

The movie consists of two satirical novels based on the same idea: both the "gangsters" and "philanthropists" end up in the courtroom.
