Con bravura poster
NR

Originally, Munk intended Eroica to be a triptych with Con bravura being the first part, but he ultimately gave up on this film, deeming it weaker artistically than the two counterparts. Con bravura is about conspiracy conflating the paths of a rather unconventional nun and an intrigued young man – each of them bears secrets and the encounter could incite a flaming romance, though one suffocated by war.Munk set the film in the mountain capital of Zakopane and its vicinity, allowing breathtaking views from a cable car and using his experiences of the Nazi occupation in the area to add gritty reality. The director plays a cameo as a priest with several of his industry friends also making appearances.

At the time when Człowiek na torze [Man on the Track] was being made, the erosion of orthodox aesthetic canons began with the social and observational layers. This is exemplified by two works characteristic of this period: Braun's Lewanty [The Levant] and Ścibora-Rylski's Sprawa Szymka Bielasa [The Case of Szymek Bielas] (unproduced screenplay). This new trend is dominated by images of the everyday living conditions of workers, often bitter and gray, emphasizing the hardship of their daily existence. Adopting a documentary point of view, the authors introduce substantial fragments of unvarnished reality into literature.

Intended as a documentation of Polish artist and theatre-maker Tadeusz Kantor’s “informal painting”, Mieczysław Waśkowski’s film develops a hectic experimental life of its own. The gestural application of paint is staged on changing spatial levels by means of glass plates, camera movements and lighting, making not the painter but the abstract form-finding the movie star.
