Eventually, however, she gave in. For Michał, it was the proverbial pebble that caused an avalanche.

Faustina is a 1995 Polish film directed by Jerzy Łukaszewicz about Blessed Sister Faustina Kowalska, a saint of the Roman Catholic Church who was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000. It is the first feature film of its kind in Poland, and far from the path of modern cinema.

Its owner, Jonathan Everett, struggles financially when his partner decides to risk a significant sum of money, believing that data analysis and probability can predict the outcomes of games of chance. As events unfold, the seemingly rational project develops into a dangerous obsession, and the search for the mathematical formula for winning leads to a series of dramatic events, including a double murder. The play combines a classic whodunit plot with a reflection on the boundaries of science, chance, and human greed.
