A photographer’s journey between past and present, as she develops a project on the concentration camps of the Spanish dictatorship, gradually reveals a cartography of the memory of the defeated.

The inhabitants of a small village lost in the woodland between Galicia and Portugal play their own life mixed with dialogues from O bosque, a play by Galician writer Marinhas del Valle. Arraianos portrays a rural community in its obstinate resistance against disappearance.

Rafael resides on his southern Spanish finca with his friends, a group of bohemian refuseniks, adventurers and leftover revolutionaries. They loaf about in style in the idyllic surroundings, playing around, drinking, chatting, reciting verse, posing and performing. Early on, Rafael’s son shows up with his German fiancée, who soon runs off with Julio after some four-handed piano playing. Henry is on a relentless quest for new business ventures and is prospecting for gold in a secret mine; Franziska prefers to ignore the need to earn money; Lucas reads book after book about economics and culture. And then there’s Domingo, who is supposed to relieve a certain Herr Müller of Düsseldorf of three million Euros.

Anxo returns to his home village in the Galician countryside. There, he is greeted with concern by the victorious and the defeated, who see in him the danger of diving back into their silenced memories.

Filmed in the infamous beach of Benidorm, a portrait of summer holidays and free time.
