When the light breaks on a long summer's day in Iceland. From one sunset to another, Una, a young art student, encounters love, friendship, sorrow and beauty.

When Guðjón, an Icelandic farmer, loses his beloved in the war raging throughout most of the world, he builds a small hut in her memory within the peaceful environment close to his house. It has snowed a lot today. As other days, Alfred theorist, a good friend of Guðjón's from the neighbouring farm, drops by for a visit. Today, old lady Gunna's cat has disappeared and Alfred conveys a special theory that has a strange impact on Guðjón's life.

The film shows a strong bond between two brothers that live in a remote fjord with their parents. We look into their world through the eyes of the younger brother and follow him on a journey that marks a turning point in the lives of the brothers.

Hannes is an old man who has grown apart from his children. Recently retired when his wife gets ill he tries to reconcile with them and to atone for his cold demeanor in the past.

Ómur jóla captures a glimpse of life and community during Christmas in the remote northern towns of Ísafjörður, Flateyri, and Þingeyri in Westfjords of Iceland. The title is inspired by the Westfjords Christmas psalm Kirkjan ómar öll by composer Sigvaldi Kaldalóns.
