Recently released from reform school, Élisa works at Madame Irma's before moving to Paris, where her success is growing. On a trip to the provinces, she meets Bernard, a blind man. They soon fall in love, but Élisa hides her activities from him. When he finds out, he hits her. The situation quickly degenerates.

Disturbed and frightened, Madeleine regains her affection for Raymond, who is delighted, but mysteriously dies. The actress and author would have everything to fear from the police if Maguy, the couple's false friend, were the culprit. The curtain can finally be lifted.

Released from prison, Arlette returns to her job as a cabaret star. The police try to get her to confess where the stolen jewels are hidden.

A group of foreign adventurers pretend to be archaeologists so they could look for gold in the Western Desert. They are hosted by a tribe whose leader, Sheikh Fadel, welcomes them, until he discovers the truth and stands up to them.

This is an unusual documentary on the oldsters in a nursing home. Young director Claude Godard (unrelated to Jean-Luc) has eschewed dialogue, music, and commentary. What remains are some startling, unsettling, and sometimes nearly morbid images of the elderly in various stages of aging, each waiting for death in his or her own way.
