Maurizio, tiny, reckless and full of energy, grew up in the poorest outskirts of Reggio Calabria, he argues with spiteful hens, speaks to wise donkeys and fights for his dream: to play the snare drum in the neighbourhood band.

Cosimo is Italian, Nicole French. They meet in Genoa during the G8 protests and immediately fall in love. Swept off their feet by an overwhelming and uncontrollable passion, they decide never to part. After much wandering they decide to return to Genoa, where they start working for a friend of theirs who organises concerts. Things seem to be going well until a tragic accident almost sours their relationship, as a result of which they’re faced with two options that can change their future. Forever.

Among the many odd jobs Matilda, a provincial girl, takes on to make ends meet is playing the role of a princess in historical costume reenactments. But when she finds herself pregnant, her boyfriend Pietro refuses to take any responsibility. Matilda then decides to have an abortion, with the help and support of her friend Anna, a fashionable painter who sees her as a reflection of herself. And thanks to Anna, she also comes into contact with Andrea, a wealthy young man whose family boasts noble origins. As if by fate, the role she plays in the reenactments begins to come in handy in a new, far more engaging fiction.
