In the home of the stalwart young son and his mother, the girl rescued from the sea grows strong again after her fearful exposure. Her attractiveness, so different from that of the fisher maidens, has a telling effect on the young man. He asks her, at length, to become his bride, and she accepts. In this woodland community, she attends church and the path to Salvation becomes clear to her. Through Mary's faith, the injured folk of the countryside are healed. However, her old employer, whose lustful advances she'd previously spurned, still has designs on her.

The tragic story of bank cashier John Hill, who fakes his own suicide to escape justice over a cash shortage, leaving his wife May alone. A couple of years later, John, now a tramp, returns to his wife, only to find that she is preparing to remarry. The film was discovered in Gosfilmofond of Russia during an examination of the uncatalogued portion of the foreign film collection. It had been listed under its German release title, Ein zerstörtes Leben (A Shattered Life), which had led to its initial classification as a German production. Subsequent identification established that it was in fact the American film Entangled Lives, produced by Edwin Thanhouser’s (1865–1956) film company and previously believed to be lost. To date, this is the only known surviving copy of the film in the world. The film was discovered and identified by Kirill Vlaskin and Alexandra Ustyuzhanina, chief art historians of the Analytical Department of Gosfilmofond of Russia.

This adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas story tells of a man, living in the present day, who returns home incognito and wealthy after having been a sailor for years and living on a desert island surrounded by water filled with pearl-oysters. He revenges himself on his enemy, who had unjustly accused him of a crime he did not commit.

Audrey Munson (a real-life 'perfect' model for numerous Beaux-Arts sculptors) first appeared artistically nude as a sculptor's model, recreating classic artistic (nude) paintings in George Foster Platt's controversial film from the Mutual Film Corporation. In fact, the film told the story of her own life. This film has generally been regarded as the first non-pornographic American film to feature nudity. A convent-raised girl falls under her father's executor's dark influence after her uncle dies. As she turns to evil and threatens society with her wealth, a doctor helps restore her true nature.

Unable to agree on the man responsible for the plays commonly attributed to William Shakespeare, Miss Gray, who favors Francis Bacon, and Lieutenant Stanton, who accepts Shakespeare as the author, break off their engagement. Stanton then arranges to be transferred to the Mexican border, and while fighting there is badly wounded. When she hears the news about Stanton's condition, Miss Gray faints, and then dreams that she has been transported to Elizabethan times. Then, after Bacon falls in love with her, she discovers his obsessive jealousy of Shakespeare, and learns that he has bribed a courtier to accuse him of stealing Bacon's plays. As a result, when Miss Gray wakes up, she realizes that she has championed the wrong poet, and so she immediately is reconciled with Stanton, who soon recovers from his wound.

When Mary Murdock is forced by circumstances to choose between the street and theft, she is caught breaking into the home of Robert Howard and is sentenced to prison. Unable to find employment after serving her prison term, Mary seeks out Howard and finds him about to commit suicide, depressed over his wife's leaving him for another man. Mary saves his life and convinces him to champion the cause of prison reform, in which he proves so successful that he is appointed warden, placing him in conflict with the political boss.
