Whatever their intimate feelings might be, marriage is an inevitable step towards independence.

To escape oppression and a haunted past, Shewit flees Eritrea, risking her life, setting out alone on the road towards Europe. At fifteen, after a three-year journey, she arrives in Switzerland, the country in which she places her hopes and dreams. Seven years later, without a residence permit and under constant threat of deportation, Shewit persists and fights to become a free woman.

Jules Guarneri grew up in Villars, with two adopted siblings, in a chalet haunted by the ghost of his mother who died when he was 20, and where his solitary father still lives; the latter presents him one day with his filmed diary. A cumbersome gift that the “filmographer” uses to make it resonate with his own images, thus forging his own emancipating path towards adulthood.
