In one of the Kuban collective farms, a new beauty-cook has appeared. Many began to look after her, but the girl was not a timid dozen and quickly gave a turn to the unlucky boyfriends from the gate. However, true love found a way to her heart, and although human envy and stupidity have done many troubles, the lovers still managed to unravel this complex tangle of misunderstandings.

The film is based on the story "Hunter's Smiles" by writer Ostap Vishnya. Once a year, it would seem, normal, even very respectable people are turning into children who have received a long-awaited toy, or to some kind of "barons of münchhausen". Famous singers, famous surgeons, pensioners, peaceful accountants - all fall into childhood: they store up with waders, dry gunpowder, clean hunting rifles. And from their conversations trembling takes: one tells how he hunted immediately after two bears, the second "sewers" he put like rabbits, the third one shot ten ducks "shot" ... This all means that the hunting season has come!

Lida Baburova, a tour guide of an architectural museum, unexpectedly receives a warrant for a two-room apartment in the new district of Zarechye, among the new settlers called "our Cheryomushki". Lida and her father go to inspect the apartment, but it turns out that it doesn't exist. The manager of the house, Barabashkin, conducted fictitious documentation, and the Baburovs' apartment merged with the neighboring one, owned by the head of the construction trust Drebednyov.

On the evening of May 9, 1945, when Moscow is noisily and cheerfully celebrating the Victory Day, a young girl agronomist Zina Sokolova and a sailor officer Lavrentyev meet in the compartment of the Moscow-Vladivostok train. The sailor takes the lively, direct character of the girl for windiness and frivolity. Sokolova also reacted frowningly and mockingly to the satellite. To get to know each other better, travelers are helped by nuisance: they are behind the train, and the rest of the way they are together, getting to know people and the life of the country along the way.

In 1918, capturing Ukraine, the German occupiers sought to use the Haidamaks, the White Guards and the Greens in their struggle. Civil war. Polish interventionists approach Berezina. The Red Army temporarily leaves Belarusian lands. Partisan detachments are organized, one of which is led by Bolshevik Stepan. His brother, who is in collusion with Polish spy Kapusta, is also in this detachment. With Kapusta's help, Polish lancers who have appeared in the village reach the partisan camp and capture the headquarters. Yanko manages to warn the headquarters about the movement of the White Poles, and the partisans are forced to retreat through impassable swamps. They manage to escape and join the Red Army, which occupies Minsk on July 11.
