Alia Bhatt is a British-Indian actress, producer, and entrepreneur who works predominantly in Hindi cinema. Born on March 15, 1993, in Bombay (present-day Mumbai), Maharashtra, to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan, she completed her schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai. Having made a brief appearance as a child artist portraying the younger version of Preity Zinta's character in Tanuja Chandra's psychological thriller *Sangharsh* (1999), she made her adult leading debut in Karan Johar's teen romantic comedy-drama *Student of the Year* (2012), earning a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She quickly silenced skeptics and achieved critical acclaim with her transformative second film, Imtiaz Ali's road drama *Highway* (2014), which won her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. Over an illustrious career, Bhatt established herself as one of Indian cinema's highest-paid, commercially bankable, and most critically revered leading superstars. She delivered consecutive box-office hits and universally lauded performances across diverse genres, including *2 States* (2014), *Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania* (2014), *Kapoor & Sons* (2016), and Gauri Shinde's coming-of-age drama *Dear Zindagi* (2016) opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She went on to achieve unprecedented artistic benchmarks, winning multiple Filmfare Awards for Best Actress for her raw, emotionally demanding portrayals in Abhishek Chaubey's crime drama *Udta Punjab* (2016), Meghna Gulzar's espionage thriller *Raazi* (2018), Zoya Akhtar's musical drama *Gully Boy* (2019), and Karan Johar's romantic comedy-drama *Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani* (2023). Her career-defining tour de force as the titular matriarch in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's biographical period crime drama *Gangubai Kathiawadi* (2022) won her both the National Film Award for Best Actress and another Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Bhatt broadened her creative footprint by launching her production house Eternal Sunshine Productions, producing and starring in Jasmeet K. Reen's dark comedy *Darlings* (2022), Richie Mehta's critically acclaimed eco-thriller investigative series *Poacher* (2024), and Vasan Bala's action thriller *Jigra* (2024). She made her pan-Indian debut as Sita in S. S. Rajamouli's global phenomenon *RRR* (2022), starred as Isha in Ayan Mukerji's fantasy action spectacle *Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva* (2022), and made her Hollywood debut in Tom Harper's Netflix spy thriller *Heart of Stone* (2023) alongside Gal Gadot. Named one of *Time* magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2024, her filmography extends to headlining Shiv Rawail's YRF Spy Universe action tentpole *Alpha* (2026) alongside Sharvari, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic period romance *Love & War* (2026/2027) opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
