Berlin 1808. A young, immature student who considers himself a poet, August Varnhagen, enters the famous salon of Rahel Levin, one of the first assimilated Jewish women of the Romantic period. He has heard of this woman who was praised by all for her wit and wisdom and he comes because he seeks connection and relations and in this salon the most famous men of the time crowded.

Katrin and Jürgen spend their holidays in Corsica. Katrin is in her mid-thirties, working as a tracer at Jürgen’s company who suddenly remembers he’s married – but not with Kathrin. In order to renovate the damaged church on the border between the hostile villages of Oberriesling and Unterriesling, the residents set off together in a coach to faraway Hamburg under the leadership of the Häberles and Rossbauers. There, they want to win a brass band competition with a highly lucrative prize. Unfortunately, Pastor Schäuble has drunk away all the donations. There are already plenty of arguments on the way north and the Hamburg mentality is not compatible with the Swabian one.

His buildings and sculptures still attract attention today, but their creator is almost forgotten: the sculptor and architect Bernhard Hoetger. The 90-minute film by Gabriele Rose tells the fate of this idiosyncratic artist. Hoetger is portrayed by the actor Moritz Führmann. Starring alongside him are Florian Lukas as Heinrich Vogeler, Katharina Stark as Paula Modersohn-Becker and Ulrich Gebauer as Ludwig Roselius.

In the chaotic, highly emotional period after the First World War in 1918, the foreign ministers Gustav Stresemann (1878-1929) and Aristide Briand (1862-1932) put all their energies into trying to lead their countries, Germany and France, which were at enmity with each other, into a peaceful future and a united Europe. After their deaths, Europe has to go through a second hell before the plan of these two visionaries succeeds. The cinematic mix of archive footage and re-enactments shows two statesmen, full of facts and emotion, who give each other nothing in difficult negotiations, but at the same time hold on to their shared vision. Even if these two human lives were not enough to reap the fruits of their labor, they sowed the seeds for the next generation. In 1926, Aristide Briand and Gustav Stresemann were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. It is a sign that the peoples of the world believe in a Europe at peace.
