The Flying Opera is the first Avantasia live album by German power metal vocalist Tobias Sammet, released in March 2011. It was recorded during their first world tour in 2008, in support of the album The Scarecrow.

A full show of 2004 - Hellfire Club Tour, recorded with many cameras, a moment of Edguy's past with a great sound plus all music videos Edguy have ever done (and one unreleased music video). The concert on the DVD was recorded live at Espaço das Américas, São Paulo, Brazil , on October 2nd 2004.

The Scarecrow is a concept album about the tragic story of a lonesome creature, emotionally isolated from his environment and suffering from a distorted sensory perception. His feelings for the love of his life unrequited, he sets off on a journey exploring his left-hand path, striving for inner peace, ploughing his way to approval and eventually facing temptation at the inner depths of the human soul. The story continues on the albums The Wicked Symphony and Angel of Babylon.
