Three people, including a pregnant woman, embark on a yachting excursion during a hurricane.

A San Francisco couple and their infant son are stranded in the snow-covered Nevada wilderness.

In Dade County, Florida, disgruntled taxpayer Harry Kee angrily protests a huge IRS bill by wiring up a box of explosives and hijacking a school bus full of special-needs children. Although the kids are terrified, Marta Caldwell, the bus' Cuban-born driver, remains calm and collected throughout the ordeal, not only helping her charges survive the crisis, but also providing comfort and support to a teacher's aide on the verge of a diabetic seizure. But while Marta keeps her head about her, the kidnapper grows more and more unhinged, and the police surround the hijacked bus, ready to shoot to kill if necessary.

When one man terrorizes a town and its citizens, they join together to take 'care' of him. A special prosecutor is brought in to find the guilty person.

Lena Kuchler, a Holocaust survivor, searches a Polish refugee camp for lost family members in the months after the war but instead finds 100 starving children with nowhere to go and nobody who wants them. She takes it upon herself to care for them, leading first to an isolated retreat, where they encounter antisemitic violence, and ultimately, to an exodus to Palestine.

A father and his children are caught by a storm whilst sailing in Alaska. When they get shipwrecked, things go from bad to worse.
