Bang Hee

Kang-wook, a law student at Seoul National University, finds himself in a tight spot financially after losing contact with his family in North Korea. He sells his own blood at a hospital to make ends meet, and there he meets and grows close to nurse Jin-young. As Kang-wook faces financial difficulties, Ki-yong, a son of a landlord's agent, appears and tricks Kang-wook into joining left-wing activities. Ki-yong's true identity is revealed by Yoon-ae, a friend from hometown, leading to his arrest. Meanwhile, Kang-wook and Jin-young marry with the blessings of Professor Park and their friends, while Kang-wook's friend Do-hyeon struggles to hide his feelings for Jin-young. Their sweet days together come to an end with the outbreak of the Korean War, separating them. Jin-young, unable to wait for Kang-wook any longer, decides to flee the war with Do-hyeon. Kang-wook, hiding at Yoon-ae's house, is eventually arrested by Ki-yong and the leftists, who had been freed from prison.

Desperate for a grandson, the Lees hire a surrogate mother for thei son Man-ho and their daughter-in-law Seok-hyang. However, when they discover that it is Man-bo who cannot father children, the Lees enlist the services of the merchant Hong Du-gae to impregnate Seok-hyang. Kwang-yeol is placed in the mental hospital for no reason as soon as he comes back to Korea after studying abroad. He manages to escape from the hospital and the continuing mysterious incidents puts him in the train headed to Yeosu. On the train, Kwang-yeol comes across the detective Yu who shows him the picture of his twin brother Bong-yeol on the newspaper. He attends the Bong-yeol's funeral service and goes into Bong-yeol's house to run into Sul-hi, Bong-yeol's wife. Mystery is solved and Hye-young, the committer of all evil deed, commits suicide.

Yun-Shik saves a whore Na-Bi with hope and love and waits for her baby birth though it is not his. Na-Bi's old lover Park Wu-Cheol, in collusion with Yun-Shik's lover Ha-Young harasses them. Na-Bi leaves Yun-Shik and returns to the life of prostitute in order to bring up her baby, and Yun-Shik gets sickness while he is knocking about here and there in search of her. One day, Na-Bi tries to wait on a guest with her baby, and because of it, is kicked out in cold winter. She goes to Yun-Shik to let the baby continue living, but Yun-Shik has already died and his funeral is on processing. It only makes Na-Bi sadder.

Threatened by starvation due to a crop failure, an entire family is forced to uproot and leave the land they love to go work in a mining village. When the Korea War breaks out, the family is scattered but they promise to meet again after one year. Unknown to them, not all the members of the family will survive the year.

After being released from prison, both Lee Jong-Bae and Moon Do-Seok, who served imprisonment at the same prison, plan to commit crime with carbine rifle having no butt plate. They succeed in the first crime, but kill a person so that Moon regrets his wrong doings. But, Lee commits the second crime to hurt persons. Lee's wife advises Lee to deliver himself to the police, but Lee neglects her advice.

Zung comes to Korea to investigate the mysterious death of her father, Seijung, a renowned performer and composer in the Japanese music scene. While Zung pursued a different path in life by studying engineering, she is drawn back to her father's legacy. In her search, she reaches the summit of Hallasan, where her father's body was found, and meets Master Woo, a master of the gayageum, and his daughter, Gasil. Listening to Master Woo's performance, characterized by the phrase "music that is joyful yet not exuberant, sorrowful yet not mournful," she learns that her father had been deeply affected by the music, leading to his tragic passing.

There is trouble in a fishing village on a remote southern island. The catch has been meagre and Wang-nyeoni, the local shaman, is on strike: she refuses to perform a ritual to turn fortunes around. In flashback we learn how she married into a shaman (dang-gol) family, tried her best to help her husband succeed as fisherman, but found both their lives blighted by Pan-su, the village boss and main ship-owner. After agreeing to return to duty, blessing the fishing fleet, Wang-nyeoni will serve up cold revenge in spectacular style.
