Jytte Rex

Jytte Rex charts the white or wilfully deleted spots on the map of primarily women's happiness and grief. This is done by the experimental filmmaker's positioning of a dream narrator as a guide through the manyleveled visions, stories and pictures that unite work, love, and revolt in any individual's life. The title refers to the cloth or veil on which crucified Christ's tormented face left an imprint for posterity.

A stream of associative patterns is woven into the many ambiguous meanings of the river image. There are cracks to blind areas of loss and oblivion, world fires and floods - and to an oasis of dreams, fantasies and myths. Images materialize in the borderline between mind and world.

Christine - a picture restorer - is terminally ill. While lying in her sick bed she delves into memories of her life and imagines the reunion with her late husband in the afterworld.

Jytte Rex' sixth feature explores the here and now, the once and future beyond, Death and Eros, and proof of God's existence to be found in the Black Holes in a universe of nothingness. Tangible human individuals like Adam, an astronome, and two small children move through the surreal landscapes of Jytte Rex' cinematic poetry. If a door opens, it is only to lead you into Eternity's ultimate maze.

After librarian Isolde attempts suicide, she leaves her politician husband for a younger student with a dark past. Isolde's former husband, however, has something else in mind for the young man.

In this portrait film, we meet Inger Christensen in her apartment in Østerbro, Copenhagen, where she tells of her life and work, and reads excerpts from her major works.

A feminist film produced in close co-operation between women who - through situations chosen by themselves for the film - partly step out of their anonymous rôle-playing and partly disclose identities that are survivors of all the oppressive tendencies of a normative society. A film about yearning. Women will live on and survive all bloodsheds and they know that with security the culminations will level out. (DFI)
