Set in present day Nashik, a city in western India on the banks of the river Godavari, this is the story of a family that is coping with death - one they know about and another that they aren't prepared for.

The film revolves around Rahul Desai (Siddharth Ramchandra Jadhav) who lives with wife Sunita (Nandita Patkar), son Chinmay (Aaryan Menghji) and mother (Usha Naik) in Kolhapur. Both, Rahul and Sunita, struggle to speak in English. Their son, Chinmay, also studies in a Marathi medium school and hence talking in English is too problematic for him too. When destiny propels Rahul to get Chinmay admitted to an English medium school, unfortunately for him, his life becomes hell when he starts attending the new school as he can't keep up with his English-speaking classmates. When Chinmay has to present his project at a science competition, he falters in English and the judge asks him to speak in Marathi. Chinmay wins the competition and convinced that his old school is not bad, he re-joins his Marathi medium school.

The story follows a group of young engineering college students. They rediscover a deep love for traditional Indian performing arts, specifically Marathi folklore music like Lavani and Tamasha. The friends decide to form an arts club at their college to celebrate this heritage. However, they face heavy opposition from their strict college principal, who prefers modern science over traditional arts. The plot tracks their emotional journey, struggles, and friendships as they fight to keep their cultural roots alive.

Mouli and Manda's children Shyam (Chinmay Kambli) and Dipti (Aarti More) go to the local school - and both are bright children who have a lot to look forward to. Shyam wants to become 'someone' and Dipti has her first crush ! When it seems that all is lost - including the land - and suicide is the only option - Shyam decides that he is not going to die and tries his best to save the family. What he does and the alternative to suicide and debt free farming (the word used in the film is swawalambhi) is the crux of the film.
