An anthology of four comic moral tales about the hypocrisies surrounding sex in 1960s Italy: frothy young love and office politics in the big city; milk advertisements that begin to haunt an aging prude; a trophy wife enduring her husband's very public affairs; a lucky ticket-holder at a small town fair.

Based on the events from the Italian civil war. In 1860's, a member of a guerrilla force captures a colonel from the opposing army and later leads one of the sides to victory.

The film shows how Italy's historic national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi (embodied by Renzo Ricci) leads a military campaign known as Expedition of the Thousand in 1860 and conquers Sicily and Naples. When the Bourbon monarchy has left Southern Italy, he supports Victor Emmanuel II of Italy who achieves a lasting unification under the aegis the House of Savoy. Roberto Rossellini has said he was prouder of this film than of any other film he ever made.

Antonio, a former variety actor, keeps his daughter in an excellent boarding school by organizing small scams with his friend and colleague Felice. Commissioner Malvasia good-naturedly persecuted him. When their respective unsuspecting children fall in love, the two fathers make peace.

Cerasella escapes just before her marriage with Alfredo and meets Bruno, the son of a wealthy industrialist.

The couple has a gambling addiction: the need to obtain a large sum to meet gambling debts, which pushes him to accept the loving invitation of Jeannette, owner of a dance school, where Stefano goes to play.

An American journalist, Barbara, goes to Italy to interview Roi, the country's most notorious outlaw when she imagines to be some kind of modern-day Robin Hood. Through local contacts and friends, she arranges a meeting and finds that her "robin-hood'" is just a hood, hoodlum and ruthless criminal. The police are about to capture him but he uses her as an hostage to make his escape but they are marooned for a night in a country farm house. It becomes a harrowing night for her and the poor farmers.

A young marquis seduces a farmer's daughter and then leaves her while she's pregnant with his child. Many years later he comes back and seduces the girl's sister.
