In a 1950s orphanage, a young girl reveals an astonishing talent for chess and begins an unlikely journey to stardom while grappling with addiction.

We arrive with New York heiress Lucy Savage fresh off the transatlantic steamer and ready for love and marriage in exotic climes. But when her husband Hugo does not receive her in the way she expected, she spins off into the surprising, diverse and degenerate world of Tangier in 1955.

The episodic film tells the stories and experiences of different people in the city of Zurich on a Friday night. People who don't know each other meet at six different locations. Two young unemployed men want to rob a bar, Swiss and Germans play cards at a regulars' table, a Zurich scene-goer tries to overcome his inability to form relationships with the help of a psychologist, and a banker cheats on his wife. Characters who are initially characterized as clichés gradually gain depth and become human. "Nachtexpress" shows encounters that could happen every night in Swiss cities. People get together to drink, talk, argue, and love. "Nachtexpress" is a socially critical comedy—a folk play that deals with current issues such as latent racism, love, and inconsistency.

A delightful farce about a young European man's first encounter with his Mexican boyfriend's mother, whose affectionate hold over her son is at once warm, puzzling and problematic. Set in an elegant Mexican hacienda on the occasion of a wedding, the comedy hinges on personal misunderstandings as well as droll cultural differences.
