In Madrid, Spain, an omniscient narrator transforms Mari Loli and Merche, two beautiful sales clerks, into Susana and Casta, who flirt with Don Hilarión, an old apothecary, which arouses the jealousy of Julián, who is in love with Susana.

A Mexican steer rancher goes to Spain to get some bulls he bought but that were never delivered. He meets a flamenco dancer during his stay in Madrid and falls for her.

During the April Fair in Seville neighborhood of Santa Cruz, Antonio, in love with Coral, will meet Esteban, her boyfriend. The end result is that Antonio is hurt and Esteban goes to prison. It is a remake of Rey's 1927 silent film Sister San Sulpicio which had been based on Armando Palacio Valdés's novel of the same title.
