Maria Fiore

Born 1935-10-01 · Rome, Lazio, Italy

Maria Fiore (1 October 1935 – 28 October 2004) was an Italian film and television actress. She appeared in 50 films between 1952 and 1999. Born Jolanda Di Fiore in Rome, in spite of a non-professional acting background, she made her film debut in a leading role, in the Renato Castellani's pink-neorealist film Two Cents Worth of Hope. Following the success of the film she was one of the most requested actresses until the first half of the 1960s, even if often cast in stock roles of impulsive and genuine low-class girls. Starting from the 1970s she focused on television, where she got several main roles in some series. After the death of their parents and to escape a forced and inevitable separation, Bruno, twenty-four, and his sister Irene, fourteen, flee the city. The two orphans live by wandering and committing petty thefts and robberies, almost for fun. The agreement between the two is not perfect, because there is someone who would like to go back. But the game will become more and more serious and will lead them to death. A small example of independent and courageous Italian cinema. The structure is that of a road movie (the place crossed in this case is Molise), but the directors focus above all on the humanity of the characters, lingering on their faces.
